Health Tips
5 TopTips to Transforming your Diet.
Maintaining a healthy diet is so important to our overall health and wellbeing. For many of us the recent outbreak of COVID-19 has been a wake-up call to get our health back on track, and what better place to start than our diet? These top tips will help you make healthy Indian food that promotes weight-loss.
"Less fat, more nutrients"
Saturated fats can cause a rise in cholesterol levels, which can increase the risks of developing heart disease and a stroke.
Foods that contain very high amounts of saturated fats include biscuits, and dairy products such as butter and cheese. In order to avoid consuming a high intake of saturated fats, behavioural changes such as checking food labels and choosing low-fat alternatives of dairy products will help us to improve our diets.
Try using low-fat yogurt, for example, when making South Indian dishes.
However, the body does need a small amount of fats in order to absorb nutrients such as vitamin D and vitamin E. So, it is important that whilst we consciously try to reduce our intake of this type of fat, we do not cut them out completely.
"I've got 99 problems and protein ain't one"
Leaner cuts of meat have less fat, making them a healthier alternative when it comes to protein!
You may think that red meat is off-limits if you're concerned about your health or trying to watch your weight, but leaner cuts of beef can be part of a healthy Indian diet in moderation.
Whilst vegan and vegetarian diets are becoming increasingly popular in the UK due to nutritional benefits, this tip can ensure you are just as healthy eating meat! This tip is useful for Indian food lovers, as often meat is part of dishes such as a lamb or chicken biryani.
"It's simple. Great ingredients make great food"
Fresh produce, including fruit and vegetables are a very important part of a healthy diet.
This is because they tend to retain a lot more nutrients compared to processed foods; therefore, it is important when cooking to try to use as many fresh ingredients as possible! Not to mention how much more tasty fresh ingredients are!
In fact, research has shown that a healthy diet may reduce the risk of cancer and other chronic diseases.
However, understandably with busy working schedules and chaotic family life, this cannot always be possible. So, why not explore using an Indian meal prep service that will provide you with all the nutrition you need, minus the cooking!
"Live a life that is well balanced; Don't do things in excess"
Although staying active is not technically related to your diet, it means you can afford to have a “cheat day” and be slightly more lenient with your diet!
Also, according to a scientific study, ‘hard work makes food taste better!’ So, exercise regularly, chose healthy options and enjoy your food a whole lot more!
Reducing our salt intake can be done through changing our behaviour patterns, as many of us automatically add that extra sprinkle of salt over our food before even tasting!
So, remember, whether you’re eating at home or out at a restaurant, don’t add salt to your food automatically- taste it first!
